Thankfully Apple decided to do a free replacement. "While I was on Os X 10.7.5, my logic board got burned out due to too much heavy processing.
and OS 10.11 i'm a bit wary of… i remember reading it had all kinds of problems with audio applications (but that was a little while ago)… the one obvious perk to any OS beyond 10.9.5 is that it can run Logic X (which i dont own, but can get it for a nice discount - a perk of a new jobĪ fellow gearslutz user says (with a similar Macbook Pro model) (though perhaps those issues have been ironed out)… a few people got very excited when OS 10.9 was introduced as it's meant to be a lot faster to operate than 10.8 (this sounds promising!)…. so it sounds like i want to avoid 10.10…. but i do want to be able to run these new plugins ….so a boost in performance would be nice, but a step-backwards would be a major bummerįrom what i've read, OS 10.10 (Yosemite) is slower and buggier compared to 10.9…. I'm happy with the performance and stability of my set-up…. In the past, I've sometimes found updating the OS on a machine that isn't the most recent model can be detrimental to performance - the machine feels sluggish on the new OS.
So between OS 10.8-10.11, can anyone recommend a particular release? Or advice to avoid a particular release?Īgain stability and performance are most important to me… (I intend to use this laptop for a live-set) I use it to produce and mix and record (Ableton)… my soundcard is a MOTU Ultralite Mk3įor the plug-ins to work, I need to update to at least OS 10.8 If it's of any relevance, the model I've got is an early 2011 Macbook Pro 8,2 quadcore "Core i7" 2.2 15". which is making me a little nervous (because I never update unless it's necessary - which means I'm now running OS 10.6.8 - which has been very reliable for me, hence why i've never updated) recently i've fallen in love with a few plug-ins and they're going to require me to update the OS to at least 10.8 ….
It has been years since I've updated the OS on my Macbook.
